CD-ROM access light blinks due to 'Auto insert notification' enabled.
Cause:
This is not a problem and will not affect the performance of the disk or CD-ROM drives. When 'Auto insert notification' is enabled or the computer contains a SCSI controller, Windows 95 will poll the bus connected to disk drive or CD-ROM drive periodically to check for a diskette or CD-ROM. Periodic polling can occur with IDE, SCI, and proprietary CD-ROM drives, even if the computer is idle.
Solution:
Disable the 'Auto insert notification' option in Device Manager.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
3) Double-click the 'System' icon. (The 'System Properties' dialog box appears.)
4) Click the 'Device Manager' tab.
5) Double-click on 'CDROM' and select the installed CD-ROM device.
6) Click 'Properties'. (The selected 'CD-ROM properties' dialog box appears.)
7) Click the 'Settings' tab.
8) Clear the 'Auto insert notification' check box.
